It’s been quite the start to the year for Australia, hasn’t it? One thing I love about our country is that we all dig in and help when it matters. Our positivity and love seem to prevail even through all the anger, confusion and injustice. That’s what makes us great.
Watching social media, I am thrilled to see Australia already starting to rebuild and rise from the ashes. I know we are a long way from where many need and hope to be, but I can’t help but feel optimistic watching new life budding from charred trees. Life-long friendships blooming. Animals being loved and cared for by flown-in volunteers. Rain falling. Even if just a few millimetres - it is a sprinkling of hope. Heck. It makes me tear up just thinking about how beautiful it is.
How can I say this is a beautiful time? Because one thing I have learnt through all the trauma and heartache in my life is that there is ALWAYS help and hope. It may not be in the form you think it will be there, but it’s there when you are open to seeing it.
Regional Australia isn’t always portrayed well in the media. In fact, it seems the only time it gets a mention in the news, it’s related to tragedy and heartache.We can change this story.
Let’s show the rest of the country what we’re really made of. Let’s show them that beyond resilience we are empowered, wise and great leaders. Let’s rewrite the dialogue over time, to become ‘regional Australia is where dreams happen’. Not where they die in drought or fire. Because you and I both know that this is what regional Australia really is. So let’s not give up on building our businesses, supporting our dreams and empowering ourselves - and our neighbours.
