Hi, today I want to talk about opening up conversation around a theme or a topic that I see playing out in a lot of business and personal relationships.. and that is the subject of whinging!
Now we are all guilty of it. We all do it. I get that. But how negatively is it affecting your life on a day to day basis?
Look, I get that we're all busy and we're all tired and (let's be honest) it's kind of easy to blame other people for shit that goes wrong in our lives. I'm guilty of it as well, but I want to draw your attention to the idea of self-accountability and responsibility.
At the end of the day, we're all responsible 100% for the way we live our lives, the way we react to the way we respond, the viewpoints we have of certain conversations and how they filter into our lives, even down to the business we all experience.I am the first one today to whinge about me being tired! My baby kept me up for the majority of the night, and I had to be at a conference first thing this morning (and be all peppy and happy). But the reality is, what's whinging going to do about it?
Answer: probably not much. So I just push on, knowing that I'm probably going to go to bed at 5.30 tonight!
So I want to ask you, what are you complaining about in your business right now or in your personal life? And upon reflection, are you simply exerting a lot of energy on blaming other people? Now other people might be your partners, it might be business partner, it might be government, it might be competitors - whoever. But how many things in your life that are impacting you negatively are you blaming on other people?
I challenge you to perhaps take a different viewpoint.
Instead of whinging first, ask: what can I do to fix this? What conversations can I have to lighten the load? What actions can I take to make life a little bit easier?
Now, if there are bigger issues around in your industry or business, perhaps it's a matter of starting conversations with stakeholders, or competitors and going, ‘Okay, what can we do together to fix this problem that we're all experiencing?’ … rather than sitting around and waiting for someone else to fix it.
Because at the end of the day, we are all in charge of our own destiny - and hell, no one likes a whinger, including me (even though, yes, I whinge!). So, I'm going to take a big dose of my own verbal medicine today, but I wanted to just get that out there and say: maybe next time before we all whinge, we should have a think about what we can do to fix it ourselves.
The decision to bring solutions is within all of our power today.
Love, Laticia x
